Metis Genetics is committed to delivering its core service - live, secure video genetic counseling sessions with a certified genetic counselor, to provide patients with the crucial information that they need to make confident healthcare decisions.

However, we are confident that the only way to solve the bottleneck currently facing the genetic counseling industry is by utilizing automation and technology to augment these services.

Metis provides a seamless customer and patient personalized medicine experience through Genetics Maven™, our proprietary portal, which offers standardized pre-test education, informed consent documentation, and negative test result disclosures, among other services.

Metis takes a consultative approach when engaging with a new partner about their genetic testing and counseling needs.  The first step is for our clinical and operational teams to understand the patient’s current journey through the partner’s unique system.  With that understanding, we work closely with the partner’s stakeholders to design customized genetic counseling workflows that integrate with existing processes.

Metis has developed automated workflows for high-volume, repetitive encounters that are unlikely to require face to face counselor-to-patient interaction (e.g. standardized pre-test education, patient comprehension checks, informed consent documentation, negative test result disclosures), which significantly reduce costs compared to the traditional in-person counseling model.

For example, a large medical practice previously provided 100% of their test result disclosures for non-invasive prenatal screening (NIPS) via a live genetic counselor. After the creation and initiation of video education sessions by Metis Genetics, 98% of these test result disclosures were conducted by an automated process, incorporating patient comprehension checks. This particular client saved approximately $88.5K per year based upon the high-risk patient volume they received for NIPS testing. If this test and automated process were expanded to their low risk pregnant population as well, this savings would increase to approximately $354K per year. This savings was based on the utilization of this workflow for only one test type, and only one patient risk category. We can imagine the potential savings if this model was applied across all of the high volume genetic tests that a large medical practice performs.¹ Read more about this example of genetic counseling automation and technology in action on Metis’ Blog.

The automation and technology services we offer enable our partners to deliver consistent, high-quality personalized health services, assess and enhance patient satisfaction, and save significant financial and human resources. Our tailored automation and technology services make genetic counseling services accessible to patients much more quickly than could be achieved by attempting to hire a staff of full-time counselors to deliver onsite services, particularly given the limited supply of counselors throughout the country.
